Mevlana Museum
Rumi's tomb and the memory of the Mevlevi order beneath the Green Dome.
The former Mevlevi lodge in central Konya is now the Mevlana Museum. Its focus is the tomb of Jalal al-Din Rumi, surrounded by manuscripts, musical instruments and objects from lodge life.
From rose garden to lodge
The site began as a Seljuk palace rose garden granted to Rumi's father, Baha al-Din Walad. After Rumi's death in 1273, the tomb and later additions grew into a religious and social complex. The turquoise-tiled Green Dome became Konya's most recognisable silhouette.
What the museum holds
The museum preserves the tomb chamber, lodge rooms, manuscripts, carpets and instruments associated with Mevlevi culture. The semahane, mosque and dervish cells help explain how the complex worked beyond the tomb itself, while the on-site objects connect Rumi's legacy with the daily life, music and learning of the Mevlevi lodge.
Keep the city-centre visit compact
The museum is a compact urban complex built around courtyards, lodge rooms and the tomb chamber, so the visit involves more standing and slow indoor movement than a long outdoor walk. It combines naturally with central Konya and the nearby Seljuk monuments around Alaaddin Hill and Karatay, while Çatalhöyük is a separate excursion outside the city. Leave room for a quiet pace rather than treating the shrine as a quick photo stop.
